Canyon State Electric Named to Inc.’s 2022 Best in Business List in Construction

Phoenix, AZ, December 6, 2022 – Canyon State Electric (CSE) has been named to the Inc. 2022 Best in Business list in the Construction category for mental health advocacy. The list, which can be found in the Winter issue of Inc. magazine (on newsstands December 13), recognizes the most dynamic companies of all sizes and industries that have had an outstanding influence on their communities, their industries, the environment, or society as a whole.

Scott Omelianuk, editor-in-chief of Inc., says, “The Best in Business awards shine a light on those that have gone above and beyond their original mission to make a social, environmental or economic impact, benefiting those around them.”

Rather than relying on quantitative criteria tied to sales or funding, Inc.’s editors reviewed the companies’ achievements over the past year and noted how they made a positive difference in the world. Canyon State Electric was selected for matching comprehensive, end-to-end construction solutions with community impact as the company unveiled its 4×5 Suicide Prevention Program to job sites throughout the valley. The program trains employees to connect those facing mental health challenges to life-saving resources before symptoms become unmanageable. It is the first program of its kind to offer training and support to craft professionals regardless of their employer.

Sidney Hawkins, Canyon State Electric’s safety and training manager, says, “Suicide is everywhere in the industry. And if we can raise awareness throughout our company, our general contractors, our presence on the site, the rest of Arizona, and nationally, we can reduce those numbers and get help to the people that need it.”

“CSE completes major construction projects, but ultimately our company is focused on people,” said Canyon State Electric’s CEO, Stephanie Maderazzo-Hughes. “We exist to make the community a better place, whether we’re designing electrical systems, running conduit, or helping someone who’s had a rough week.”

The 4×5 Suicide Prevention Program is currently represented on over one dozen Arizona job sites and has certified nearly thirty individuals across six major Phoenix companies in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA).

Canyon State Electric was one of two construction companies highlighted in this year’s Best in Business awards. CSE’s achievement is available online at inc.com/best-in-business.
