Phoenix, AZ, September 13 – Electrical contractor Canyon State Electric (CSE) and the American Heart Association of Arizona (AHA) presented Jacob Pobstman, a welder for the City of Mesa, with the Steven Maderazzo Lifestyle Change Award yesterday. Returning for the third year, the award recognizes individuals in the construction industry who have made significant and positive changes to improve their quality of life and overall health.

Pobstman said he was leading a happy life two years ago with his wife and four children. But he wasn’t pleased with his weight and activity level. After discussing it with his lifelong friend Bill McCance, he knew it was time for a change.

“He’s been a real big support in my life. I can call him, text him— we lean on each other,” said Pobstman.

With McCance encouraging him to make the change, Pobstman visited the Mayo Clinic to create a plan with a physician and dietician. Since his decision to lead a healthier life, Pobstman has lost nearly fifty pounds.

“I notice a massive difference in his attitude and happiness,” said McCance.

Seeing results from his lifestyle changes, Pobstman is now encouraging others to improve their habits as well. His father, who kickstarted Pobstman’s career in welding, has also started eating healthier foods, and his wife has switched to a keto diet.

Canyon State Electric and the American Heart Association presented the award to Pobstman at the AHA’s Phoenix at Heart Executive Breakfast on Thursday, September 12.

“We’re proud to give this award to Jacob, who shares our company’s values of health and wellness,” said Stephanie Maderazzo-Hughes, Canyon State Electric’s CEO. “His hard work and dedication set an example of what is possible for those in the construction industry and in the community.”

“It gives me motivation,” said Pobstman. “There are days where I don’t want to keep going. But this gives me an extra push.”
